About
I began my yoga journey in 2013 after moving to central Florida. Being athletic most of my life, I was instantly drawn to heated classes and vigorous flow classes meant to stir the energy and get you sweating. It was just another physical activity I added to my gym routine, and within 6 months I had gained 10lbs of muscle and was able to get off prescription medication for IBS. These benefits were more than enough to get me in a studio 5 days a week, sometimes multiple times a day.
But when I got pregnant with my son, these vigorous and heated classes were no longer permitted for me and I began to practice slower meditative styles such as hatha, yin, nidra, and restorative. These classes not only helped my transition into motherhood, but allowed me to work on many of the underlying feelings of fear and unworthiness that kept me from feeling whole within my body and mind. As the seas inside me calmed, I felt called to enroll in teacher training, so I could help others find peace within their minds and body too. I currently have 500+ hours of registered training with Yoga Alliance and have 1000+ hours of live teaching.
Why I Teach?
It is my deepest hope to help students find themselves on the mat journeying toward their bliss. It is not always apparent to us what we need, but when we find it we know. Being able to strip away the different layers of ourselves to just be, just be without the worries of what’s next, or who do I need to impress is a gift I would love to share with my students. When the practice become less about how it looks and more about how it feels, we can discover so much more about ourselves that we ever thought possible.
As a Central FL-based yoga instructor, I teach students of varying levels. Those fresh to the mat, or seasoned practitioners can all find a place to practice in my group classes, and of course, special attention and focused instruction are always available by scheduling a private class with me in home or online.
Why I Practice?
When I found yoga, I carried with the scars of an active eating disorder and a type A perfectionist’s personality that forever stood in the way of my happiness. I didn’t know how disconnected I was mind, body, and spirit; nor, did I have the slightest understanding of why I was ill. I came with no tools for healing.
Yoga taught me how to unpack my issues in a safe and comfortable space. It gave me the quiet and the stillness to explore the darkest reaches of my being and pull myself into the light. Physical practice moves my body and allows me to explore its potential, while meditation allows me to heal the disconnect between my mind and body. Learning to let go of ego and let things be, saved my sanity.
Is Yoga For You?
If you are breathing, then yoga is for you. There are no prerequisites for practicing yoga other than a willingness to make it on the mat. Limitations or injuries do not preclude you from practice. There is style of practice for all.
Yoga isn’t for the flexible, it’s for the willing.
